Farmers Feed, Clothe
Alabama
Every year the number of family farms in Alabama becomes
fewer and fewer, but our farmers feed and clothe those
of us who live in Alabama. We now have only around
43,500 active farms in the state, yet our farms produced
more than $5.15 billion in farm and forestry receipts
last year. Of the $5.15 billion, poultry, fish and
livestock makes up almost $3.4 billion. Farming is still
Alabama’s biggest business with poultry, cattle and
calves, and greenhouse, sod and nursery products serving
as our top three farm commodities.
The
food we buy today is higher in quality and nutrition and
better tasting than ever before. It’s grown on the most
modern farms in the world, processed in factories that
maintain the world’s highest standards of cleanliness
and quality. I salute the men and women of agriculture,
especially the hard-working farmers across
Alabama.
Every fall, as we celebrate our bountiful
harvest, Alabama’s fairs and livestock exhibitions are
our state’s best entertainment for the entire family.
Our fairs are fun, educational and they highlight the
important role of agriculture in Alabama.
Sincerely,
